The International Foundation for Gender Education

Alameda County, CA -- Access to quality health care is a vital issue within Alameda County's transgender community. In response to years of not being able to find or afford doctors knowledgeable about transgender health issues, community leaders and elected officials have called a Town Hall to explore county-wide solutions to this important issue. The July 25th (2007) meeting will be the first time that the County has come together in this kind of setting to talk about increasing the quality of life for transgender people.As a county known for pulling together to find solutions to pressing problems, community members and elected officials are optimistic that health care access for transgender residents can be vastly improved over the next year. Health policy leaders, health care providers, and transgender consumers will take part in the town hall to share their experiences and ideas. The town hall is being planned by Lighthouse Community Center, Tri-Cities Health Center, and the Berkeley Free Clinic with support from the Transgender Law Center.
