This conference is a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University, Hope University, Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Community College and is supported by the Leadership Foundation (part funded).Aims of the conference:

* To identify and champion existing good practice
* To explore how leaders at all levels within an organisation can drive change
* To identify the barriers to change in organisations and to develop realistic strategies for overcoming these
* To have a real impact on practice, both in educational and employment establishments
* To consider the business case and legislative compliance

The intended outcomes include:

* Learning how different institutions in Higher Education and FE and the private and public sectors are tackling equal opportunity issues, especially at the local level – within academic and service departments;
* Learning how to overcome barriers to equal opportunities and how to achieve better practice, better outcomes;
* Learning about diverse interpretations of diversity and equality, and their implications for practice;
* Learning together across and beyond the ‘categories’ of discrimination;
* Setting up local networks
* Providing a diverse range of workshop sessions addressing one or more of the themes above, which give all participants an opportunity to share relevant experiences;
* Using a number of creative means and media to highlight issues related to the above themes;
* Creating an atmosphere of trust and mutual support, which enables delegates to network and learn from each other;
* Recording and represent the discussions and findings of the delegates over the two days;
* Production of Conference report

Call for papers/ workshop delivery

* Have you recently completed or are you currently engaged in research related to issues of equality, diversity and employment?
* Are you working on policy implementation in this area or
supporting either students or workers in this area?
* Do you have examples of good practice that should be shared with a wider audience?
* Do you have an issue or an approach that you would like to share through a workshop presentation?

If so you are invited to submit a paper or a workshop presentation at the above conference. Keynote presentations, papers and reports plus reports from the workshop presentations will be included in the conference report.

Deadlines

Abstracts due: 15 February 2006 - email advice on abstract by 27 February.

Completed papers by 31st March for inclusion in conference proceedings.
